Small and affordable,

"I tried various powerful sanders and I'm not careful with the contours of my workwoods and sometimes damaged the design. I'm just a beginner so I'm forgiven but this sander from craftsman gave me dexterity never to damage any contours. Now I'm back to the heavy duty sanders and was able to perform with precision. This itm is best recommended for beginners."

Work on bed of pillows,
February 3, 2008
By SpoonManfrom South Carolina
"I carve wooden spoons as hobby and this sander works great. I had the sander for years but could never find a use for it. I normally made furniture and just didn't need it. After retiring, the wife and I started working as volunteers at a lighthouse and had plenty of time on our hands so I took up carving spoons. The sander is great for sanding the bowl of the spoon, especially if you remove two of the sanding disks. The problem that I encountered was that you don't want to drop the sander; your first time will be your last. Make sure that if dropped, it doesn't have far to go. The little speed control thumb wheel is especially vulnerable. I ordered another from Sears because it works well for my stuff. They had them on sale for under $10 so rather than pay the replacement insurance fee of $1.48, I just ordered two sanders. Thanks, good luck."

3d Sander,
January 22, 2008
By Zillafrom Omaha, Ne
"When I first started up this sander and tried it out with the sanding disks supplied, I was disappointed. Before I decided to throw it away, I decided to cut disks out of real sandpaper and used double sided foam tape to hold the disk to the sander. I was very impressed then. Now I don't have to worry about finding the disks and paying too much for them. Also, you can find hook and loop disks that aren't too expensive if you don't like using the tape. I doubt it will last very long, but I could be wrong. It does not sound or feel like the typical Craftsman product, but at this price, worth it. If you are going to use it for light hobby work, should be good to go, just be gentle with it."

"While useful for small projects, this tool is poorly made. I have owned mine for less than a year and it simply quit working. I used it approximately 2-3 times per week, hardly making significant demands on it. Frankly, it is not worth the price. It might be OK for $9.95 but that is about all I would offer for it. Disks are overpriced and often hard to find or out of stock as well. This item has followed the general downawrd tend in quality of Craftsman portable power tools. Stay away from it."

"I am using this sander for light metal sanding. It works great for contours and as far as I know theres no other tools like it. It feels cheap, but it is working fine. I don't bang it around, I doubt it could take any abuse."

"I do a lot of small projects and scroll-sawing. It works as intended for light-duty use and fond that it makes a nice lightweight sander. However it is cheaply made and would not be willing to pay full price for it. It is a surprising sander as to how well it sands when it wants to work."

"the 3d sander is a very usefull tool for sand hulls of ship when you are modelling a plank on frame/bulkhead hull or a solid one (in this case we are speaking for finishing stage), the tool works fine in over 90% of hull surface including bow and stern, is necesary 2 o 3 passes beginning with coarse pads and finishing with fine or extra fine ones. the surface you will obtain is incredible smooth, never seen before, I've checked it in various wood types, it is hard to beleive. Highly recommended you will save lot of time and you will gain a proffesional finishing without doubts, be prepaired for have several sanding dics you will use at least about 15 per a 20" tipical hull."

"This sander worked great on the contoured surface of the chair seat I was making. I was surprised at the power it had and how quickly it smoothed out the tool markes of the chisel."

"I have not been disappointed with this sander. It did a nice job of following the contours on a cedar bench that I built. It is surprisingly aggresive, especially considering that it is only .5 amp. It has been very useful for me."

"buy this only when on sale, then it is worth it....don't drop it very often it will stop working,,insides not well built,,,,the plastic sanding discs that the sandpaper attach too, break off too easily,,they are made to come off but the little plastic pieces that keep it attached break off very easy.. i use this item quite a bit but am very careful on handleing it have bought a second one because the first one broke when it got dropped more than once, but for finish work in small areas it works fine, as i said you get what you pay for. it is not worth over 20.00 so get it when it is on sale, it is not worth the 34.99 that is the reg price."
