Where's the water?, April 29, 2008
By Goodluckwiththisunit from Connecticut

"We were not happy that this uses 14 - 16 Gals. of water per wash (Total). We started with 2 pair of geans and 2 canvas work shirts. The machine filled up (If thats what you want to call it) And started the wash cycle. The cloths were slamming and thumping because of the lack of water. It reminded me of the movies when people would go to the river and slam there cloths on rocks to clean them. They were all tangled up and when we took them out there were dry spots in the middle of the tangled mess. It "washed" for just under 2 hours and there were still dry spots? Whats this about? We were told we over loaded it. We saw when we bought it that you could wash 18 towels. And it cant handle two shirts and two pair of pants. So we washed them again and this time we forgot to put the soap in, so my wife remembered and ran to the machine to add the soap and they were in the wash cycle by then and there were so many bubbles in there that she figured we were mistaken about the soap. So we left it alone. We let it run through to the end and ran them again with no soap and the same thing! Bubbles and dirty water were still in the machine. This was the third time through. Two times no soap and still dirt and bubbles? We used the HE soap like they recommended, "VERY LITTLE" (but this is telling) NO WATER MEANS NO FULL RINSES. Last week the machine went haywire and gave a "INC" error display and the door locked and the buttons froze and the water would not stop filling the machine. It would not do anything else, just dump water after water in the drum to the point we had to unplug it. The SEARS tech came out and pluged it in and got the same results. We unpluged it to stop it again (the only way) or shut the water supply off but then the pump would keep running. He said he was going to replace the two computer boards and the pump. He left I called Customer service and we are unloading that hunk of Iron for a different hunk of Iron. This time we are going back to a top loader for 1/3 the price and plenty of water. (With NO COMPUTER). We had this unit 42 days before it spun out. no pun. If you need clean cloths why revert to something with no water? Soap and water go together like Gasoline and cars, Can't have one without the other. No tear will be shed when this leaves."

Could have been a disaster..., April 17, 2008
By JacksonATL from Atlanta, GA

"My wife and I purchased the Kenmore steam washer on 3/8 and had it delivered on 3/9. On 4/15 (37 days later) the washer valve that regulates the water intake broke. Luckily we were home when it happened and I was able to turn off the water supply. Otherwise, the entire upstairs would have flooded. We had the technician out to fix the valve on 4/17 and he said it would take another 5 days before the correct part was in. Needless-to-say, we're returning the washer."

Laundry for 8 made easy!, April 17, 2008
By ThankfulHomemaker from Tremont, Illinois

"My husband purchased the steam set for me a couple months ago and I continue to thank him and tell him how much I appreciate them. I can get 2 1/2 times what my last washer did which makes laundry for a family of 8 much simpler.
Two times now the steam treat got out stains that did not come out with traditional treatment and washing.
Most recently I had stains on our Amish hand-quilted wedding quilt from my parents. I had been disappointed in the fact that it seemed like they would never come out. I put the quilt out for company Saturday and realized I could try my new washer because it was so large. I started with the regular cycle but when that didn't do the job, I tried the steam cycle with timed oxy and it looks like new.
The cycles are long, but my shorter cycle machine that we replaced did not do the job my steam set does and I would have to multiply the old machine time by 2 1/2, not to mention changing loads every 45 minutes, that time counts too, so I am actually still saving time!!!
I have not found untangling clothes to be a problem. Occasionally sheets may get tangled, but I wouldn't expect it to be any different with another machine.
I love the steam dryer too. Especially to touch up clothes after we have travelled somewhere, it's so much easier than ironing everything when it doesn't need laundered.
As a homemaker I place this set among the top of my "most thankful" appliances. They do an excellent job, save my time (changing loads) and are worth the investment."

I love my machine, April 3, 2008
By lovemymachine from North Carolina

"I absolutely love my new steam wash machine and steam dryer. It cleans so well. I don't even have to pre-treat anything anymore. I love the sanitize cycle on it. This is the best machine, and the best investment my husband and I have ever made. I WOULD definitely recommend this exceptional product to anyone!!!"

RUN!!! Don't walk to buy this washer, March 24, 2008
By kdd1209

"My husband left a blue ink pen in his shirt. I washed it with a load of other white perm-press. When the load finished washing there was not 1 piece that was salvagable. I re-washed using the steam feature and EVERY piece came out spotless. I have never used any thing like it. Wish I could buy more to have as spares when this one wears out. Kudos to kenmore for developing a product that works like is supposed to"

Should be excellent for the price!!, March 11, 2008
By Tera from Minnesota

"I have had my HE5t set for just over a month and I agree that it can be a real mess trying to untangle your clothes at times. If you wash a load of all sheets or all jeans - they tangle up terribly and it does take time to untangle them. Not something you would think you would need to do with such an expensive machine. The other thing I do not like about the washer is the length of time it takes to wash most loads - when I purchased the machines they make it sound like it will go so fast and fail to mention the tangling of the clothes. I also do not like the wrinkle guard they have on the dryer - with my old dryer it would shut off the heat but keep tumbling to prevent wrinkles. I do not know how they think the clothes will not get wrinkled if it just starts up once in a while. I was expecting way more from these machines, especially with the high cost."

Broken in 6 weeks, March 7, 2008
By StuckWithIt from Frostburg, MD

"With a 2 year old at home, we do a lot of laundry. Saved up and bought the newest Kenmore front-loader, the HE5t in December. Installed it in January, and within 6 weeks it began to malfunction. We requested a new washer rather than repairing this one (these machines are not cheap, and we didn't want to keep battling with repairs), but was told that since it had been 96 days since it was delivered, there was no way we were getting a new washer, nor could we return the set. Overall, it's REALLY not worth the money. Even before it malfunctioned, it did not clean any better than my 20-year-old washer had."

A Great Product, March 1, 2008
By Forest from Teaneck, NJ

"I have the HE 3. For the average person this washer/dryer is very expensive. To get around that I skipped an annual vacation and got my washer/dryer set sort of for free. I don't even remember that missed vacation, but I do remember the washer/dryer because I use them every 3 to 4 days. They are quiet, problem free, clothes come out spotless and fresh, the washer and dryer are timed to finish together so you get huge loads of laundry done in no time at all. One of the best investments I've ever made."

By Lovin from Hawaii

"This washer is wonderful. The clothes come out cleaner and I can wash my King size comforters, my pillows, and rugs (certain ones of course). As long as you do not over load the washer everything comes out well. If you use the steam, it does take a little longer to wash your clothes but to wait for cleaner clothes especially your whites, I got time because I am in my home not a laundry mat."

Disappointed, January 5, 2008
By Momof3dearones from Blountville, TN

"I asked my husband to buy this set for me for a Christmas present since we have 3 kids and I do A LOT of laundry. We wanted to make a small step toward helping the environment was our reasoning for wanting to purchase an HE set. We decided to go with Kenmore because they have been around forever and have proven themselves in appliances.
I must say that I love how clean the steam setting gets the clothes, however, I hate the 2 hours that it takes to use that cycle. Then, on the "everyday" washing cycles, it takes me 10 minutes to get the clothes out of the washer and into the dryer because they are a tangled mess when they are done washing so you first have to untangle them, then you have to shake them out before even putting them into the dryer. Also, I didn't get the pedestals when I got the set and now I am regretting that decision, too because it is back-breaking process getting the clothes out of either of the machines."

Great System - Works great, December 27, 2007
By OrangeCountyCA from Orange County, CA

"One person noted 'pulls' -- sounds like he/she overloaded the machine. You can't fill a washer to the limit and expect it to clean properly. This is a second set of these we've purchased, the other is now at a second house, working perfectly (5 years old). The new one is even better, larger, quieter, purchased at the beginning of December 2007. Front Load is the ONLY way to go, and is VERY gengle on clothes (unless you stuff everything you own in the machine and expect it to work). It works best when 1/2 full of clothes, or less. Use express wash if you're in a hurry, works great."

Best money I've EVER spent!, December 27, 2007
By Gavin from Des Moines, IA

"I purchased the HE5t Steam washer about a month ago and it has been amazing! I kept my water bill from the moth before I bought the machine and the month after to show people how much water I actually saved. I have my wife, two children and myself in my household. We went from 4342 gallons of water last month to 3154 this month. I saved over 1000 gallons in a month! Also my clothes are very dry when they come out of the washer so it only takes me about a half hour to dry a load. My hand wash sweaters are very well washed and not streched when they come out. My whites are very white and I'm very impressed! I would recommend these to anyone that wants a large, quiet, and efficient washer!"

HE Washers not worth the money, December 1, 2007
By fedupinnj from New Jersey

"I purchased the HE4 washer and dryer in 2005. Since that date I have had several problems with the washer. The first problem I encountered was with the pedestal. The two bottles of laundry detergent I placed in the pedestal now makes the bottom scrape and adds noise and difficulty in opening it. The second problem is with the rubber membrane near the door's entrance. The membrane captures water and must be manually cleaned or a terrible smell and mold condition develop. The membrane must be pulled back and your arm is put in an awkward position when cleaning. The final problem is with the damage the washer causes to my clothing. I wear a synthetic uniform for work and the uniforms have numerous pulls. In addition, all of my workout clothes and wy daughters uniforms for socccer have been ruined. The amount of pulls the washer has caused is incredible. I have tried every possible solution to no avail. The washer is 2 years old and I can no longer wash clothes in it. The best Sears can do for me is send a service man out for $75. I agreed and he found no problem with the washer. I now own a $1300.00 washer I can wash only jeans and towels in. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!"

HE5t Washer, November 10, 2007
By Ginny5 from Washington, DC

"I just got this washer and the instructions are very confusing. We need more information on how much water to expect in a cycle or more on how the HE process works. I am not sure if the machine is working or not -- there never seems to be any water in the tub!"

"I have only had the washer a few days but it does get stains out when you use the steam treat. My son gets bloody noses and unfortunately his mattress pad would never come close to getting the stains out. I washed it yesterday with the steam treat and steam sanitize with very little bleach. I could barely find the blood stains that had been there for months, I had washed it previously (several times) with bleach. We also washed white t shirts and the armpit yellow also disappeared (no bleach). AMAZING!! I am hoping it is as durable as it is with cleaning. It does take a while to use these cycles but knowing my sheets, whites, towels and daycare bedding is sanitized and fresh is worth the wait."
