Happy hot days,
July 26, 2008
By Wayne44from Henryetta, Ok
"I received my a/c yesterday and I put it in the window as soon as I took the other one out (a one year old 6000 btu). This unit is so much more powerfull than my old unit. You can actually feel air blowing out of the thing in the next room. I have a 12' by 24' two room metal office building with metal roof attached to my mobile home. It's 100 degrees here today and I'm stayin cool. For less than 300 sq ft I'd recommend this unit without question."

Good, but shoulda gotten bigger unit,
July 8, 2008
By Lorraine10from Dallas, TX
"I got this a/c end of 2007 summer. I got it for a single 10 X 14 room w/adjoining half bath. This has been a good unit that doesn't suck much power (low bills!). BUT it doesn't cool as large an area as advertised. I must turn thermostat down to 70 for room to be 73'ish. Other than I wish I'd gotten 10,000btu, this has been very good a/c. Quiet (it's beside my headboard, & I sleep like a babe when it's on). Great 4-way directional vents. Unit is screwed into sill so no rattling. This has been a life saver in our 100 degree heat. I use it to supplement my central unit, and it keeps the power guzzling central unit from running as much, & saves me $$$$. I love that it has a temperature select, rather than just high-low. If you're considering this unit, I suggest going up to 10000btu, but other than that, I've been delighted w/it."

2007 it was dandy - '08 it died,
July 8, 2008
By RobJerseyfrom Jersey City, NJ
"Got this half through last summer and it worked a treat. Pulled it out this year, cleaned the filter element and all was good. For a day... Started to smell musty and was kicking out some damp, hot air. Went to turn it off and even though all the lights went off, the fan kept running. Unplugeed it for a day and tried the next evening. Still acted weird and was making a weird whirring. Gave it a swift slap and the thing came back to life. Worked OK, but not nearly as well as last year for 2 more weeks and finally died all together."

LOUD,
June 28, 2008
By Disappointed74from Queens, NY
"I just installed this AC and the noise is enough to drive a person mad. It was so loud that my friend could hear it from outside, down the street, and I live on the 6th floor!!! I had to take the AC out. This is un-usable."

Cool but Noisey,
June 12, 2008
By ACJayfrom Mystic
"Cools down my family room very nice, but does make some noise. The front cover rattles and vibrates alot. I keep it hanging down like a previous person wrote when I watch TV, so I can hear it. Overall it cools nice if you can deal with the noise."

"The unit works quite well. I use it to cool my bedroom and it does so fine. The only con is that when on Hi Fan the unit is loud other than that , a good investment. I've had it since summer 07, never took it out for the winter and it's been working well so far this year. I'm now considering the 15,000BTU for my living room and kitchen."

Rattle, rattle,
May 26, 2008
By spicegirlfrom Princeton, N. C.
"Got this unit towards the end of the season last year. Temps outside were from 90-100 degrees for about two months. Unit did seem to cool pretty well, but would keep you awake at night with the rattle noise coming from the front cover. We tried everything from styrofoam padding to taping the cover shut. Nothing worked except leaving the cover just hanging down out front. Very unsightly! I now have it at the Sears service center. They said allow 2 weeks for repair. It has now been 3 weeks, and I have not heard from them. It is starting to turn hot again, and I need A/C in my bedroom. I was aware of the noise problem early, but was unable to return the unit for replacement. It was toward the end of the season and there was a shortage on A/C units due to the excessive heat in this area."

THIS UNIT IS AN ABSOLUTE JOY!,
April 3, 2008
By Tommy187from Florida
"I have had this unit for quite some time now, about 6 months or longer. I live in Florida where heat and humidity can not only be uncomfortable, but also DEADLY. Houses can get into the upper 90's without AC. This was the first WINDOW AC UNIT I have ever purchased. I must say it is an ABSOLUTE JOY! When I first got it I was running it on the coldest setting, with highest fan speed setting. At this setting, this unit will literally FREEZE YOU OUT OF THE ROOM at about 66 degrees. It's quite powerful. But after owning it for a while, I find the best setting is to lower the temperature setting one setting lower then maximum, with high fan speed. On this setting, it will keep your room about 70 degrees. Now I am trying the same temperature setting, one setting lower then maximum, with the fan at low speed setting, and it seems to be keeping my room at a quite comfortable 72-73 degrees. THIS UNIT IS EXCELLENT. The noise for this unit is not bad. At full fan speed setting, it's kind of loud, but not really bad at all. And at low fan speed setting, you hardly notice it's on at all. I think this unit is HIGHLY EFFICIENT as well. I have not noticed a big increase on electric bill. But I have not had to use it DAILY yet either. But the weather is starting to get hotter, and I am now using it daily. As far as RELIABILITY this unit is TOP NOTCH. Simply turn it on and within seconds it's pumping out freezing cold air."

"I bought it primarly for the necesity of the hot climate here and for the price. The first two months it worked fine but in the third month started to overcooling . I mean the unit is not that bad but is not a 5 star neither , my experience is that sometimes you have to spend some more money . that's my feedback"

"I bought this ac to cool the kitchen and living room area (approx 300 sq.ft. or a little more) of a older approx. 1967 single wide mobile home. The unit I bought was just a sears store display model that had never been used. The controls are easy to use. The remote is easy to use also, especially if you don't want to get up from your chair. It is a very quiet ac that does not bother me when watching tv in the living room, regardless of what other reviewers may have said concerning the sound of this unit , this to me is a very quiet ac unit. The ac front filter was easy to remove and clean, just takes a few minutes to clean and reinstall. My mobile home area is kind of crowded so, I use a 1 small fan to help ciculate the ac breeze around stuff and across the kitchen to the living room, and in an hour or so the room is pretty cool. The main thing when using a ac like this in older mobile homes is too have good insulation in your walls and floors, and try to insulate your wall and door windows as much as possible , the better the insulation, the better and more efficiently this ac works. In the past without an ac my mobile home was like an oven in the summer, but this ac really helps to cool the place down. I like the kenmore brand ac units ,they seem to perform pretty well. I would definitely buy kenmore brand ac units again if necessary."

"The reality is, that for any cooling for temperatures over 80 degrees, this unit does not have the capacity or air flow to cool a 100sf room! The air that comes out of this unit is cool, NOT cold & the fan/CFM is low. I purchased this unit based on other reviews. Learned a big lesson - it is better to spend more up front to purchase something that is more than required than it is to be cheap & end up wasting time & paying twice. We live in Los Angeles so we do not care too much about de-humidifying - maybe the other reviewers needed that feature & that's why their reviews were high. I would not recommend this unit."

The settings on here are fine..I recommend this to anyone who has a room that needs 8000 btu or less. This cools down in no time."

"This Air Conditioner cools my small room quickly;within 45 minutes the room is freezing. It is very quiet and it fit easily in my window. The AC only has 2 cooling settings and 2 fan settings, but it makes up for it in the performance. It does a great job for the price!"

"I bought this as my third A/C unit. We currently have Kenmore's 5700 BTU base model in the bedroom and a Royal Sovereign portable 12K BTU unit in the living room. This one is in the computer room and helps cool that room and the hallway that connects all the rooms. It puts out very cold air (unlike the RS portable), it is surprisingly quiet at full power (unlike the RS portable and the one in our bedroom), the digital controls are very intuitive, the directional vents work well (unlike the one in our bedroom) and installation was easy. I would definitely recommend it over either of the other ones - and at this price, it really can't be beat. The only improvement/feature I would have liked to seen was the ability to schedule specific on and off times. You can set the unit to turn on or off at various pre-set intervals, but it isn't all that useful, since, as an example, you'd have to remember to set it each morning if you want it to turn on before you get home from work. But at this price, it's a feature I don't mind not having"

"This 8000 btu unit was called into service to cool two adjacent rooms separated by bifold doors. The first unit had loose or defective components inside so it rattled mercilessly. Sears exchanged it out with no problem, fortunately, and the replacement has been used one season with no complaints. It's heavy among the window units I have at home, but not excessively so for an 8000 btu unit.
I mounted it in a window located in our TV room, such that it cooled across the room and into the adjacent home office, which is only about 10 feet wide. It cooled the TV room easily and the office space adequately.
My only interface complaint is that its fan/cool sequence is not logical or conventional. I would much prefer a setup whereby you start with high fan, move to high cool...then medium...step down to low cool...and finally denouement with a low fan setting before shutdown. It toggles through its steps in a way that would seem to be harder on the cooling unit, although during its last season of use, it didn't seem to complain about the stress of duty.
It's a straigtforward, white, clean design otherwise that is not obtrusive in any room."

"I live on the third floor of an old apartment building, so all the heat collects in my apartment. This machine takes care of the problem in a short amount of time. I'm rarely more than ten or twenty minutes away from a reasonable temperature, although getting it low enough to shut off the thermostat, in my application, can sometimes take a while. My only wish, perhaps, is that I should have gone with the Energy Star model so that the A/C unit would have a better temperature selection for the thermostat."
